Caitlin Schweizer is new to Birmingham after living and working in New York City for six years. Originally from Virginia, Caitlin received a B.A. in Global Affairs with a World Arts concentration from George Mason University and has had a widely varied dance background. She is a former member of the Gye Nyame African Cultural Dance Company and two time member of the NBA’s Washington Wizards dance team. In New York, Caitlin continued a diverse course of study at Broadway Dance Center and participated in annual showcases, including the opportunity to assist BDC’s Sheila Barker. She has performed on tour internationally, appeared in a network national AOL commercial, worked on set for the TV musical “SMASH”, and taught classes in renowned Ailey Extension and Mark Morris Dance Center studios. Caitlin has worked with photographer Kevin Richardson on the NYC dance photography project Dance As Art, and is always looking for new ways to bring appreciation to the art form. She recently formed an adult dance community “Intercity Dance Collective” – intended to extend the dance experience and conversation beyond the usual big cities and typical dancing age. Caitlin is newly wed to her husband Oliver and the two live in downtown Birmingham next to Railroad Park where they frequently chase their rescue pup Madison around the trails.
