Dance is a joyful, transforming experience for students of all ages, abilities and circumstances. It speaks to the spirit and invites exploration. The Dance Foundation is a non-profit organization supported by generous corporations, foundations and individuals. We teach 2,000 students each week through our Studio Program and Community Partnership Program. Our dedicated team of teaching artists and musicians “move” all over the Birmingham metro area to dance with and inspire our diverse family of students.
Our studios are home to dozens of artists and arts organizations for classes, workshops, rehearsals, and performances who also exude a love for dance. The Dance Foundation has been a gathering place for learning with and through dance for more than 40 years.
Our teaching approach and curriculum engage the imagination and nurture creativity. Our students gain a strong technical foundation in dance as well as the confidence and self-discipline essential to learning the art of dance. Classes are taught by teaching artists who have received significant training, degrees, professional experience, and/or certifications. Live music is an essential component to classes for young children to develop the students’ musicality and to allow for spontaneity and creative freedom. Classes are held in Downtown Homewood in our five state-of-the art studios with two-way glass and observation areas. Classes are also offered at a handful of preschools such as Levite Jewish Community Center, Homewood Day School, and Our Lady of Sorrows.
